The outset of the First Balapur Ganesh was in 1980 in the same village – ‘Balapur’ as a combined effort of the villagers, Balapur Ganesh Utsava Samithi Committee and the elders of the village. The celebrations in the first couple of years – 1981 and 1982 were small and colourful with everyone in the Balapur Village participating in the celebrations with hymns and praises to the Lord Vinayaka.

The Year 1982 saw a disruption in the normal running of the Ganesh Chaturthi event. The curfew in the twin cities – Hyderabad and Secunderabad, which led to the state bandh, created Communal/Regional disturbances throughout the cities resulting in the temporary interference of the event.

Keeping this particular incident in view, the state government provided strong security for all the Ganesh Idol Immersion areas from 1983 and some important (big) celebrated places which included Balapur. The Balapur Ganesh was provided with 200 to 300 police force, keeping the large crowd in view coming to visit and take blessings from the divine Lord Ganesha.

As the location of Balapur is around the Old City (Babanagar, Barkas, Chandrayanagutta and Shailibanda), it is considered a very sensitive area for communal disturbances by the Police which justifies the allocation of such a large police personnel to a single area. Balapur was given a high priority during the 80’s concerning the security issues and it can now be named as the only area to be allocated with such a large police personnel.

To ensure the proper security, protection, proper functioning, timing and the schedule of the event, the Balapur Ganesh Utsav Samithi Committee members and and the Police Officials of Padhishareef meet in Salzee Garden in Balapur exactly one week before the actual commencement of Vinayaka Chavithi.

One day before Vinayaka Chavithi, the Police will inspect the Balapur area with sniffer dogs, bomb squads and land personnel. This inspection continues till it covers the entire village. The security measures hold up till the Ganesh idol crosses the boundaries of the old city to ensure the safe passage of the idol.

On the last day of the Navarathri celebrations, the Police Commissioner attends the Pooja and commences the immersion process. The entire process is monitored at the commissioners office through the security cameras installed at different points following the path of the Ganesh idol procession from the Mandapam till the actual immersion. The security cameras provide the Official with a live feed of the entire event helping the police to survey the area and find the errors as soon as humanly possible.

The police personnel include the actual police officers, heads, paramilitary forces, volunteers, youth groups aiding the functioning of the event and the top officials. Save a few fracas between the devotees and the security officers, the event has been successful all these years beginning from 1983 to 2008.

Additional Police force is deployed in the form of the Rapid Action Force(RAF) and the Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) who are summoned from other districts to be placed at most needed situations and who measure up to a hundred in number.

These personal patrol the village during the nights of the Nine days festival and these measures are inspected by the Police Commissioner on the ninth day when he visits the village.

The Policemen follow the idol throughout the complete path of the Ganesh immersion way from the Mandapam in the Balapur village to immersion area at Tank Bund which is around 18 Km.
