‘Balapur’ History mainly begins with the birth of Baba Sharbuddin in the area now known as “Balapur”. He was born in a house now named – “Gandham Kotti”. The story goes that –
After he was born, he went to “Devathala Gutta” to make it his abode. Since, another God – “Anjaneya” was already present there, he crossed the lake “Burrakhan” in one step and landed in “Pahadishariff” in another step. He dwelled there ever since.
Since it was the Birthplace of ‘Baba Sharbuddin’, the area came to be known as Balapur.
Three Generations ago, during the Post-Independence Period, the area – now known as Balapur mainly consisted of Hindus and Muslims. Due to the majority of the Hindu populace, the Muslims were force to vacate the area and move to an area now known as Barkas.
Once every year, all the Muslims from Pahadishariff move to Balapur to honor Baba Sharbuddin and celebrate the festival known famously as “Gandham”. All the villagers(be it Hindu or a Muslim), participate enthusiastically in this festival. A camel walks all the way from Balapur to Pahadishariff on a white carpet(the whole way). Three/Four days after the camel reaches Pahadishariff, a big feast is celebrated there.
